Below is my story map, similar to Dr. Liu's that he showed us last week, tracking my families origins and journey to the US. I can certainly see how this tool could be effective. It definitely has some wow factor, I can see it being used in large scale presentations. In terms of telling a story what I like about it is the movement and ability to show physical distances. When looking at my families origins I like seeing how close these places are geographically and the distances that are being travelled by the various partites involved. It would be interesting to see the narrative capabilities, constructing an actual work of fiction that seamlessly brings in visual components. I'm thinking this could be particuarly helpful in chidlren's books and education materials, perhaps especially for early education. It could certainly aid students in understanding world and national histories. Beyond using a literal map with this tool I can also see a lot of potential in art education, like the featured example on KnightLab's website in which a painting is anaylzed. Being able to zoom in and out of different parts of a work while inserting other media with notes gives everything a polished look, ideal for a professor in a large lecture.
